CJCA was very glad to welcome participants in the Pilot Program for the first CJCA Superintendent Training Program that was held on August 3-6 during the CJCA Summer Meeting. The program was created in response to fieldās growing need for a juvenile focused training for facility directors/ superintendents, and CJCA in partnership with the Center for Coordinated States Assistance. The training was conducted for facility leadership and agency deputy directors overseeing facility operations. The 4-day in-person conference is being followed by a 6-month TTA/webinar series.
The conference and six (6) month TTA program focus is on (1) Strengthening incentives for investment in evidence-based practices; (2) Improving conditions of confinement in juvenile justice facilities; (3) Ending the use of certain restraints on detained, pregnant juveniles; and (4) Addressing the needs of system-involved girls along with other leadership capacity building topics.
There were attendees from 14 Jurisdictions including: Arizona, Alabama, Ohio, Ā Massachusetts, Georgia, Minnesota, Maine, Mississippi, Washington, North Dakota, California, Rhode Island, Oregon and Multnomah County in Oregon.
CJCA is planning to offer the training again in Jan. 2020 during the Winter Meeting in San Diego.
