Condolences – Peter Forbes

Apr 28, 2025 |
It is with profound sadness that the Council of Juvenile Justice Administrators (CJJA) mourns the passing of our dear friend and longtime colleague, Peter Forbes, former Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services. Peter dedicated 39 years of extraordinary service to improving the lives of system-involved youth and strengthening juvenile justice systems. His unwavering commitment to fairness, staff development, and youth success set a standard for leadership not only in Massachusetts but across the nation. Those who had the privilege of working with Peter knew his gift for bringing people together, fostering collaboration, and inspiring hope even in the most difficult moments. His optimism, wisdom, and thoughtful leadership leave an enduring legacy within the juvenile justice field. We are deeply grateful for Peter’s tireless efforts, his vision for a better future, and his profound impact on all of us. His passing is a tremendous loss to our community, and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with the Forbes family and all those who knew and loved Peter during this difficult time.
With heartfelt condolences,
The Council of Juvenile Justice Administrators
